Gropius Passagen Berlin
Extensive conversion work was carried out as part of the reorganization of the rental space in the shopping center in Berlin-Gropiusstadt.
One central component was the fundamental restructuring of the delivery area in order to meet the requirements of “gigaliner” trucks. Two load-bearing columns were removed for this purpose, and the 1,200-ton ceiling loads had to be supported by steel truss girders on the fourth floor.
The implementation of the new tenant concept included the installation of four new elevators over three floors and two additional elevators over six floors. In addition, five ceiling openings were created for new escalators.
The existing foundation of the structure was improved by the use of 250 underground concrete columns using the high-pressure injection method.
All work was carried out so as not to impair the ongoing operation of the shopping
center.
