Berlin department store, escalator eye
A round escalator eye was built over seven floors in a former atrium of a Berlin department store. The basic construction made of structural steel profiles and reinforced concrete allows for the rotated arrangement of the escalators and the openings that increase in size towards the top.
The transportation of materials and personnel was implemented using a centrally mounted construction lift system within the later escalator opening.
All work was carried out without disrupting ongoing business operations.
